Barcelona

# 1  what to see in Spain

Barcelona is undoubtedly the cultural capital of Spain. The urban sprawl of the Catalan city is dotted with the extravagant architecture of Antoni Gaudí, including La Sagrada Família, as well as museums that house the masters, such as the Picasso Museum. You can also explore centuries-old neighborhoods like Barri Gòtic, which dates back to the Roman Empire. Don’t forget to take advantage of the city’s equally magnificent outdoor offerings, including Park Güell and La Barceloneta beach.

Seville

# 2  what to see in Spain

This beautiful Andalusian city is steeped in romantic charm. During the day, you’ll find pavement cafes lining the cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages snaking through pastel-colored squares. And when night falls, the flamenco dance comes out in full force. This is the kind of place you should get lost in, but if you make time for famous spots like Plaza de España and the Real Alcázar, you won’t be disappointed.

Madrid

# 3  what to see in Spain

Of all the cities in Spain, Madrid is the one that knows how to show travelers the best time. The city’s party-goer reputation is really all that is flawed, but that’s not all the Spanish capital has in store for it. Madrid is full of vibrant and varied neighborhoods, as well as beautiful parks, enviable shops and some of the best art institutions in Europe, including the world-famous Prado Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum

Grenade

# 4  what to see in Spain

The Arab influence of Granada makes this destination different from the rest of Spain. Thanks to its history as part of the Moorish Empire, Granada is home to tapas bars and flamenco venues that come into contact with Moroccan cafes and Arabian bathhouses. This confluence allows you to experience two cultures at the same time. And you must make time to admire the breathtaking local treasures, including the Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada National Park.

Bilbao

# 6  what to see in Spain

Although this northern Spanish city is best known for hosting the Guggenheim, Bilbao offers much more than its famous museum. Bilbao is located in the middle of a beautiful valley, offering incredible views over the city and its rolling hills. Visit Casco Viejo (the historic city center) for delicious pintxos (Basque tapas) and explore Parque Etxebarria, where you’ll find some of the best views in Bilbao. Or, hop on the Funicular de Artxanda for even more spectacular views. No visit would be complete without visiting the famous Guggenheim and other local cultural institutions, such as the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao.
